April 24th 2008

My rest day lasted till breakfast when I was offered a lift to Brandon Marsh from my non-birding neighbour. A very pleasant morning in between the showers with my first Garganey 2 of the year, along with Redshank, Oystercatcher, Common Tern, Ringed Plover, Cetties Warbler and Hobby while the Grasshopper Warbler showed briefly. Also seen were Lesser Whitethroat, Whitethroat, Garden Warbler, a distant flight view of Lesser Spotted Woodpecker and a Whimbrel flew over car park calling.
Lawford Heath had a Little Owl looking pretty miserable perched on telegraph pole during a hail storm.
Evening visit to Draycote with Dave produced 7 Artic Tern, first summer Little Gull and 20 Yellow Wagtails before the rain came in so we toured the valley only finding 4 Buzzards and a Green Woodpecker then it was off to the pub at Cubbington for our usual birders night.
Garden is pretty quiet these days so pleased with the appearance of Goldfinch late afternoon.
